Kirstie qualified in 1993 with a BSc (Hons) in physiotherapy. She initially worked as a Neuro physiotherapist in Durham treating adults with chronic long term conditions. She moved to Portsmouth for 5 years where she worked for the army as a clinical specialist physiotherapist treating all their head injury soldiers and also any service personnel with traumatic brain injury (TBI). Kirstie set up her own practice in Portsmouth which ran successfully treating clients with brain injury in their own homes.
Kirstie moved back to the North East in 2000 and took up a post at North Tees NHS Hospital as a team leader in neurology covering Strokes, MS, Parkinson’s disease and other brain injuries.
In 2002 Kirstie founded Sky Blue Therapy. The practice started with treating clients in their own homes and now operates from a base within Body 2 Fit at Wynyard. Sky Blue Therapy’s aim is to establish clinics and services for all brain injury clients in the North East.
Kirstie has been qualified for 15 years and has treated Neuro patients for the majority of this time. She has undertaken extensive postgraduate training in the Bobath concept of treatment and is keen to embark on research projects in conjunction with The University of Teesside investigating the efficacy of physiotherapy in treating TBI.
Kirstie is also a trained manual handling advisor and trainer, teaching in nursing homes and hospices across the region.
