Joy qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist in 1993 from the University of Teesside. Before co-founding Body 2 Fit in 2007 she worked as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist within the NHS where she developed a reputation as being an expert clinician in the diagnosis, treatment and management of shoulder and spinal pathologies. She has lectured to physiotherapists and medical colleagues and has also contributed to several published research papers.
Joy has completed a Masters degree (MSc) in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy, is a member of the highly regarded Manipulation Association of Chartered Physiotherapists (MMACP), a member of the McKenzie Institute of Physiotherapists and the British Elbow and Shoulder Society.
Her keen interest in analysis of movement patterns and dysfunctions and the subsequent development of specific rehabilitative exercise programs led Joy to train as a Pilates Instructor with the internationally recognised Pilates Foundation. Joy is a strong advocate of Pilates and believes it has enhanced her physiotherapy clinical practice, creating a unique approach to the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of movement dysfunction.
Joy is also a qualified Ballroom and Latin American Dance Instructor and heads the dance team at Body 2 Fit. It was Joy’s love of dance and fitness that originally prompted her to train as a physiotherapist. She promotes dance as a way of exercising whilst having fun, running group and private classes throughout Teesside, for all ages.
