Running

Whether you run for fun, to de-stress or competitively, the mechanics of running are much more than just faster walking. The impact through the feet to the knees, hips, pelvis and spine are increased dramatically and unless the CORE is prepared to deal with the increased stress injury is likely to occur.
The large majority of running injuries, particularly the chronic, repetitive ones, are caused by poor biomechanics. Often runners will seek the advice of a Podiatrist to make sure that their foot alignment is correct and whilst this can cure and prevent some injuries, it is worth considering what is happening at the other end of the leg.

Pilates strengthens from the inside out and increases body awareness, therefore the runner becomes stronger through the pelvis and spine and more aware of how to maintain the ‘ideal’ posture whilst running. If everything above the fast moving feet is doing its job then the task becomes easier and injury less likely to occur. This inevitably makes you more efficient and eventually quicker.
