Pilates and Sport

Rugby

Rugby Federations around the world have been including Pilates in training for several years now. In particular, the New Zealand All Blacks have embraced the benefits of Pilates for rugby and endorsed its use, helping to increase the popularity of Pilates among men.

Rugby players must be strong and powerful yet flexible and agile. Pilates helps to tone and strengthen the Core muscles of the trunk which improve the body’s alignment and make the larger, mobilising muscles more effective. The repetitive, high impact nature of rugby means that without a solid Core strength, players are more likely to suffer injury. Pilates practiced frequently will ensure that the Core remains strong and the body flexible thereby helping to prevent and rehab from injury.
