Occupational Physiotherapy refers to the application of Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy within the work environment. Occupational Physiotherapy Specialists have been trained in assessment of the workplace and its impact on the employee (ergonomics).
They use their extensive knowledge to help prevent, diagnose and treat conditions related to work thereby allowing the employee to work at maximum potential and affording the employer increased productivity.
Manual Handling training / Ergonomics
Work of any type that involves the pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing and/or pivoting of materials or people can potentially lead to injury. This type of injury is one of the main contributors to sickness absence in the workplace.
Using Ergonomics (the science concerned with correctly fitting people with their work) Body 2 Fit Occupational Health Physiotherapists will assess the job and its demands on the worker, advise and train staff on the correct postures and positions and educate on how to prevent injuries occurring.
Manual Handling training is suitable in ALL work environments e.g. offices, factory floors, nursing homes, schools, medical centres, etc.
Body 2 Fit’s specially trained Occupational Health Physiotherapists will assess employees in their workplace environment in order to maximise their comfort and prevent the risk of injury without sacrificing productivity.
The workplace environment can be defined as anything from the office to the factory floor.
As previously quoted ‘Prevention is better than cure’ and one way of maintaining this in the work place is to frequently conduct Risk Assessments.
Body 2 Fit’s specially trained Occupational Health Physiotherapists will assess the workplace with a fine toothed comb looking for ‘potential’ risks to the employee and advising accordingly on how to prevent any injury.
As well as the services outlined above, Body 2 Fit can supply your workforce with direct access to medical support by specially trained staff including:
General Practitioners (GPs)
Occupational Health Nurses
Counsellors
Diet & Nutrition
These services are available on an ad-hoc or routine basis.
Does your workforce spend the majority of the day on their feet?
Are you dependant on them being mobile or being stood at a production line?
If so then it makes perfect sense to make sure that they are as comfortable as possible in standing or walking.
The best way to ensure this is to have a biomechanical assessment, an examination of the foot and legs and their function, by one of our Podiatry / Chiropody team.
It is widely known that if your feet are supported correctly then you can help prevent the symptoms of a prolonged posture:
Shin splints
Achilles tendonitis
Knee pain
Back pain
Heel pain
And preventing these problems can help keep your workforce active, healthy and productive!
Pilates involves the specific training of the small stabilising muscles of the skeletal system which help improve posture and flexibility. In the workplace, our bodies are often exposed to repetitive movements or prolonged postures.
Pilates is the perfect answer to ‘breaking the mould’ in the workplace and challenging the employee to strengthen the muscles that are weakened at work.
Better Posture = Reduced Injury Risk = Increased Productivity
Yoga challenges the individual to maintain postures (asana) which in turn help to strengthen and stretch the body. By increasing the suppleness of the body, you immediately reduce the risk of injury.
Yoga in the workplace is common place in the eastern world and is incorporated to not only reduce work-related injury but also increase moral.
A Happy Workforce = A Productive Workforce
What better way to de-stress in the work environment! Often we get caught staying in the same posture at work for far too long. Body 2 Fit’s specialised clinicians can be on hand to release the tension, relax the staff and improve the atmosphere in the workplace.
Following the analysis of injury ‘trends’ in the workplace, the introduction of specialised exercise programmes to members of a work team can help to prevent future injury and reduce sickness absence.
Staff sharing a similar job role can benefit from performing specific exercises aimed at addressing ‘high injury risk’ areas which have been identified through audit or risk assessments.
Completing the exercises in a group environment can help motivate, empower and improve moral among the workforce.
